What can be done immediately if a dental crown is broken?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

This happened this evening. I just need some guidance on what I can use to hold this crown together until I see the dentist. It is the front teeth, so if I open my mouth, the view will not be pleasant. I am currently taking Propranolol 60 mg daily.

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Upon review, I think it is a tooth fracture. Please provide me with pictures or more details of presenting the complaint.

Here is what should be done:

  1. Tooth fracture if front teeth can be restored with composite.
  2. You can preserve the fractured segment of the tooth, preferably in milk, until examination.
  3. I would suggest a tooth vitality test. I think it is an Ellis fracture. The prognosis would be fair, in my opinion.

Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further.

Thank you.
