Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Can I marry a woman without a thyroid gland? She has a nodule in her left lobe of thyroid gland but after total thyroidectomy, there was no cancer. I am tensed because she has no thyroid gland. The surgeon said it is not a matter but some doctors say there will be a complication in future. I am tensed with her life-span. Can she live a normal and healthy life without a thyroid gland? Some doctors say that every medicine has side effects. So I want to know that the side effects of synthetic Thyroxine taken for whole life? Can she conceive? Can I marry her?

Please answer my every answer clearly. It is my future.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

According to your history, the queries you have are usual and answers are yes, she can live quite a normal life provided she takes the supplement Eltroxin (Levothyroxine) timely and according to the prescription. Yes, she can conceive but for further information, you should consult a Gynaecologist. There are quite common side effects of Eltroxin but they do not hinder in normal sex life neither would be a reason to not marry her but you might like to consult an endocrinologist for further information.

Take care.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
