Transient Ischemic Attack

The transient ischemic attack is caused due to loss of blood supply to the brain, spinal cord, or retina, leading to stroke-like symptoms that are temporary, lasting less than 24 hours. Some of the causative factors are family history, obesity, hypertension, diabetes, clogged arteries, heart disease, sickle cell disease, alcoholism, smoking, sedentary lifestyle, high cholesterol levels, hormone replacement therapy in women, old age, recreational drug use, etc. Symptoms include unconsciousness, dizziness, altered senses, blurring vision, slurred speech, one-sided numbness or weakness, etc. Blood thinners are the treatment of choice. Though these are not dangerous, they might be an indication of a future stroke.
