Hello doctor,
My dad was diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis two months back. After that, the doctor gave him a tablet of Akurit and discharged him from the hospital. He was feeling tired and not keeping well. He was again taken to another hospital, where the liver function test (SGOT and SGPT) showed a three-digit value. The doctor said the liver enzymes were more due to the Akurit tablet, so it was stopped. The following medications were given- First stage - Levofloxacin 500 mg, Streptomycin 750 mg IM, and Ethambutol 800 mg, in the second stage (after LFT came out normal) - INH (Isoniazid) 100 mg was increased step by step to 300 mg, third stage - Streptomycin was stopped, and Rifampicin 300 mg was increased gradually to 600 mg. So now he is taking Levofloxcin 500 mg, Ethambutal 800 mg, Rifampcin 600 mg, and INH 300 mg. Please suggest whether the treatment is correct and what next steps should be followed. Thank you.
