Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My partner and I had unprotected sex 15 days ago. A week later, she experienced abnormal bleeding, but she will have her periods the next month. Are there any chances of pregnancy?

Answered by Dr. J. N. Naidu

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I request you to mention more about the bleeding. Hormonal imbalance is a common cause of bleeding. I suggest you ask her to undergo a urine pregnancy test ten days after sex to rule out pregnancy.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

It is not bleeding heavily, but the blood is dark and thick. The date of her last period was 18 days ago, and we had sexual intercourse three days later. She had taken Unwanted-72 on the same day. Her menstrual cycle is of 28 to 30 days.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

As the incident happened three days after periods, the chances of pregnancy are less. Unwanted-72 (Levonorgestrel) is an effective emergency contraceptive pill. However, it has some side effects like irregular bleeding, etc. Her problem appears to be a side effect of Unwanted-72. The blood becomes dark when retained in the cervix, but that is not a problem.

Thank you.
