Do I still need an HIV test after multiple negatives?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had unprotected sex 15 months back; the next day I tested the girl, she was negative, and after that I tested again after 12 weeks. I had taken the tridot antibody test, and later I had taken a test seven months later, which was also negative.

After that, I had an unprotected romance. I removed my clothes, but the woman is wearing them. I rubbed my penis against her vagina, and later she gave me a hand job.

After that, in the fifth month, the doctor suspect gave me an injection with the used syringe, and later in the last month, I again took the tri-dot HIV test; again, it was negative.

  1. Do I need to worry, or should I test again with any high-grade tests? Last month, while I was giving blood for a blood test, I did not see anything while drawing out my blood; I thought they used an already-used syringe.

  2. Should I need to worry about this, and if yes, can I take a 4th-generation antigen and antibody test for a 100 percent conclusive result, or is there no need?

Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and can understand your concern.

You do not need to worry or test again for HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). Your risk was extremely low from the described activities, and your multiple negative tests, including the most recent one from last month, are 100 percent conclusive that you do not have HIV from any of these events.

Here is what you need to know

  1. Your tests are conclusive. A negative HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) test at 12 weeks is considered definitive. You have tested negative repeatedly, with the last test being over four months after your last possible exposure, five months back. This is absolute proof you are HIV-negative.

  2. Your activities were very low risk:

    1. Rubbing on clothes and a hand job carry zero risk for HIV transmission.

    2. The fear of a reused syringe at a clinic is extremely unlikely in any legitimate medical setting. Your last month's test has already ruled this out.

  3. You do not need a 4th-generation test or any other HIV test. Further testing will not change the conclusive negative result you already have.

  4. Your symptoms (white tongue, dryness) were almost certainly related to spicy food, acid reflux, or oral thrush, and not HIV, and they resolved with antacids. They are not HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) symptoms, given your negative status.

  5. You are experiencing health anxiety. Your fear is focused on HIV despite no risk and conclusive proof. This anxiety is the real issue to address.

I hope this answers your query.

Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Thank you.
