Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 31 years old, female. I had unprotected sex three days ago. What should I do now?

Answered by Dr. Raveendran S R

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

No need to worry. There are two options.

1. You can go for Levonorgestrol, taken 72 hours after sex.

2. You can go for Ulipristal Acetate 30 mg taken 120 hours after sex.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Is it safe to take Ulipristal Acetate?

Answered by Dr. Raveendran S R

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, it is safe. Levonorgestrel is effective for emergency contraception if it is taken within 72 hours after sex.

Ulipristal Acetate 30 mg:

1. Effective for emergency contraception if it is taken within 120 hours after sex.

2. A second tablet is only needed if vomiting occurs within three hours.

3. Seizure drugs will decrease its efficacy.

4. 0.9 % to 2 % failure rate.

5. Adverse effects are nausea, headache and dysmenorrhoea.

6. Menstrual bleeding for next period may be earlier or later than expected.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
