Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have a stone in the upper ureteric for which I underwent an ultrasound. According to ultrasound results, upper, middle, and lower calyces show four hyperechoic lesions measuring 0.07 to 0.19 inch. The right upper ureter showed a hyperechoic lesion measuring 0.19 inch. I feel severe pain in my right abdominal region. How shall I fix this problem? Need I do surgery, or can I cure it with medicine?
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have gone through your query and understand your concern.
Based on your reports (attachments are hidden to protect the patient's identity), you have an 85 to 90 percent chance of passing out the stones with medication alone. The ureteric stone is the reason for your severe pain. Once you pass that out, the pain will subside. Since the stone is in the upper ureter, and based on its size, it is reasonable to wait for up to three weeks for the stone to pass spontaneously before thinking about surgery. In the meantime, if you have repeated episodes of severe pain, fever, or blood in the urine, then you will have to get the stone removed with surgery earlier. I would suggest you visit your local urologist for treatment at the earliest.
Hope this helps.
Feel free to revert with any other questions.
Regards.
