Why does a foul smell from the penis occur after having sexual intercourse without a condom?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

After having sexual intercourse with my girlfriend without using a condom I began to experience a sudden smell from my penis. She is on birth control. The smell started almost one day after the sexual intercourse. This has never happened while using condoms. This was a little while ago and I thought it would go away. But it has stayed with me for a while now and is a foul fishy odor. The smell is more intense after ejaculating and lingers even when I have not ejaculated in days. The semen does not smell as intense as my penis. I always take good care regarding the hygiene of my private part and wash them on a regular basis. Please advise the best way to get rid of this smell as I have tried changing my diet as well as cleaning my penis even more regularly than before. I have a feeling it has something to do with unprotected sex, and I am unsure of what to do.

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

It seems to be due to an infection in the urogenital tract. So, I suggest you follow the instructions mentioned below.

  1. Take plenty of water daily.
  2. Clean your penis with soap and water regularly.

I also suggest you take the following medications.

  1. Take a tablet of Metrogyl ER (Metronidazole) twice daily.
  2. Take a capsule of Itraconazole (antifungal) 200 milligrams once daily.
  3. Take a tablet of Zathrin (Azithromycin) 500 milligrams once daily.

Take these medications for three days and do a follow-up after three days.

Kindly consult a specialist, talk to them, and take medications with their consent.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.
