Hello doctor,

I am a tennis player and recently had a severe urinary tract infection that shrunk 20 % of my left testis. Will it affect my performance?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

How do you know it is UTI? Do you have any urine reports? Have you got your testis examined by a specialist? What problem do you have because of this while playing?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am receiving my treatment for the infection from a urologist as it has been controlled the epididymal-orchitis swelling has gone down but has shrunk my left testicle by almost 20 % I will attach the scan reports. I am having pain above the testicles where nerves are present when I strain.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

As per your report (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity), the left testis has a mild reduction in size as compared to the previous scan. I do not find any evidence of a 20 % reduction in size. Second, there is an abscess at the left testis which is going to get resolved with antibiotics. So, the treatment given to you is fine. I would suggest you refrain from strenuous sports as it may cause permanent damage. If you are supposed to do any strenuous activity which is unavoidable, my suggestion is to use scrotal support. Rest, you can resume your sports once your abscess gets resolved. And I do not see any reason for the long-term effect of this on your sports career.
