How to treat UTI?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been experiencing symptoms of a urinary tract infection for almost three weeks. Despite trying various over-the-counter medications, none have provided complete relief. The symptoms tend to subside for a day or two, only to return shortly thereafter. I am experiencing pain during urination, accompanied by a significant urgency and frequency to use the restroom multiple times throughout both day and night. This situation is beginning to impact my daily activities. I am uncertain about the next steps.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

Prioritize your health more effectively. Over-the-counter medications may not yield the desired results; please adhere to the following guidelines. Ensure you consume ample fluids throughout the day. Refrain from caffeine and beverages that contain caffeine (such as tea, coffee, and soft drinks).

  1. Tests: Urine routine examination, urine culture, and sensitivity.

  2. Medications:

  • Syp. Alkasol (Disodium hydrogen Citrate to increase alkalinity of urine): 5 ml mixed with 50 ml of water twice daily.
  • Tablet Pantoprazole (a proton pump inhibitor to reduce gastric acidity) 40 mg Dosage: One tablet Timing: Once daily, before breakfast (BBF).

I hope this information helps you.

Feel free to ask further queries.

Thank you.
