What is the difference between conventional and painless vaccines?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

What is the difference between conventional vaccines and the newer painless vaccines? Which one do you recommend?

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

  • In recent times, painless vaccines have become popular as they do not cause local pain at the injection site after the vaccination. In comparison, the traditional type of vaccine may give rise to a local swelling and pain for nearly 48 hours.
  • However, recent reports suggest that the painless vaccine provides slightly less immunity than the painful one.
  • I will recommend you to take the painful vaccine as it will give more protection. But, if you cannot see your child in pain, you can choose the painless variety. Even though it will give slightly less immunity, it is not a big deal if your child is living in a hygienic environment. In that case, even this would be sufficient to protect your child from the disease.

Ultimately, it is your choice. But, I would recommend the painful one.
