Is it normal to have vaginal bleeding in a newborn girl?

Hi doctor,

My daughter is 5 days old, and we have seen blood from her vagina for the last three days. Doctors and midwife are saying that this is normal in newborn babies. I have attached a picture of it. Could someone please look into it and advise what can be done to stop the bleeding?

3. It usually subsides on its own. Once hormone influence decreases, symptoms automatically subside.

Breast milk production increases by

1. Adequate sucking of the breast by baby (feeding position matters for improving feeding position).

2. Make sure unless the baby empties one side breast (meaning making sure foremilk and hindmilk are taken, the mother will feel emptiness over the breast), do not attach to another side.

3. Have a two to three hours gap between feeds so that baby feels hungry.

4. Lifestyle change for mom (making sure adequate sleep and rest).

5. Improve diet by adding more protein and fiber.

6. Ensure adequate hydration.

7. It would be helpful to use Shatavari powder (Ayurvedic) to improve milk output.
