Does having intercourse for the first time lead to vaginal wall tearing?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am a 24-year-old female, and I had my first intercourse five months back. My vaginal wall was torn during intercourse, and I got stitches for it. I want to know the reason for my vaginal tear.

Kindly give your suggestions.

Thank you.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

A vaginal tear during sex can happen to anyone, because the skin around the vagina, vaginal walls, and the inside of the labia are sensitive. Having intercourse without sufficient lubrication can cause vaginal tears due to friction, as the skin cannot move against friction. Lubrication can help avoid trauma and reduce the risk of vulval or vaginal tears after sex. Inadequate natural lubrication, not using lubricants, or sexual positions that put additional strain on the perineum (region between the anus and scrotum, or vulva), can increase the risk of vulval perineal tears. So, I suggest you use lubricants to avoid vaginal tears.

I hope this has helped you out.
