Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have a concern with my vagina. I recently had an STD screening and everything came back negative. But I did not have a herpes test or HPV. My question is, is it normal if the vaginal opening is not a perfect circle? I do not have bumps but the entire cavity seems slightly unusual so I wanted to look into it. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. The pictures you have shared look normal (attachment removed to protect patient identity) and you do not feel any abnormal growth or lump when you feel inside the vagina, so I do not think that there is anything to be scared about. Your history suggests that you are asymptomatic. I presume that there is no discharge, no itching, no burning sensation, and no pain during intercourse (if you are sexually active). So that also rules out most problems. If you are sexually active then please get a pap smear test done. Also, it is supposed to be done every three years after 25 years of age. It screens for cervical cancer and HPV is the causative agent. It is just a screening and there is nothing to be afraid of. The vaginal opening does not have to be a perfect circle at all. What about the cavity do you feel is unusual? Pictures look normal but only an internal examination I can identify if the cavity is free of disease.

I hope this helps.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

I feel normal tissues when I self examine myself. I just thought those little bumps around the opening may have been something alarming. But there is no sensation or odor. It is not sensitive to the touch either. I just wanted to make sure everything looked as it should.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

The bumps may be healed hymenal tears and as you are totally asymptomatic there is nothing to do. Hymen tears after sexual intercourse but it may tear in virgins by acts like fingering or cycling or fall or any trauma around the vaginal area. So it is a normal finding.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
