Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

A computed tomography scan of my ear depicts debris within the auditory canals. What does this mean?

Thanks.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

Debris inside the auditory canal would most likely be impacted by wax or cerumen. If an otolaryngologist can look into the ear using an otoscope, he will immediately be able to tell you what it is. He must have had a look before he suggested the CT (computed tomography) scan. Next time you visit him, please ask him to put an endoscope and show you on the screen. So you can assure yourself. But regarding the complaints that made you undergo the CT scan, can you describe them to me? Did these two episodes of vertigo start suddenly? Did the dizziness follow any warning, such as fullness of the ear or ringing sounds inside the ear? Was the period between the two episodes symptom free? Have you ever had any discharge from the ear? Do you have any hearing loss? Did you have any reduced hearing during the episode? Vertigo with loud noise can be due to Meniere's disease, which needs a precise diagnosis and appropriate treatment. However, most of the time, the dizziness would be insidious. In some patients, impacted cerumen can cause vertigo pain and noises inside the ear. Do revert if you need any further help.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks.
