Are Fucidin cream and Zifi 200 mg tablets safe during pregnancy?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

A couple of months back, I had unsafe sex, and now I have had a pimple in my pubic area for about a month, and the pimples were not going away by themselves. I visited a doctor, and he said it is a common virus. He sprayed on the pimples, asked me to use Fucidin cream, and said the pimples would go away in 10 days. My wife is pregnant and has had a similar pimple in her pubic area for two days. I am concerned about her. I purchased Zifi 200 and Fucidin for her. Would this affect the pregnancy?

Kindly help.

Thank you.

Hello

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Zifi (Cefixime) 200 mg tablet is comparatively safe in pregnancy and local a antibiotic also does not adversely affect the fetus. However, accurate diagnosis can be made only after examination and further tests, and only after that can suitable treatment be given. Antibiotics do not cure sexually transmitted viral diseases and without proper treatment, the lesions can worsen and there can also be chances of transmission to the fetus. So it is better that you take her to a gynecologist for proper examination and management.

I suggest you do the following blood tests for further suggestions.

1. HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) test.

2. HBsAg (hepatitis B surface antigen) test.

3. Anti-HCV (hepatitis C antibodies) test.

4. VDRL (venereal disease research laboratory) test.

5. HSV (herpes simplex virus) serology.

Thank you.
