Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a platelet count of 55 and vitamin B12 is 176. There are tingling and some numbness in feet for about a month now. Is this a dangerous level and what could be the cause?

Answered by Dr. Sadaf Mustafa

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Your B12 is low and you should take Vitamin B12 1000 mcg daily orally for six weeks and test the level again. I see it was less on repeat but not sure how much was it spaced out and how much you took orally? Since it did not improve with oral replacement, you would need IM treatment and if I am your doctor I would also check you for vitamin D3 and iron deficiency. There could be a couple of things here including poor oral intake or poor oral absorption by the stomach or the gut.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
