Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have the habit of eating raw rice. I have been trying to stop eating but in vain. Recently, I have been gaining a lot of weight, my stomach has started getting bigger, and there are black spots all over my stomach.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

I suggest you stop eating raw rice. More than a sudden weight gain, eating raw rice causes bloating because of the difficulty in breaking down the rice during digestion. When there is indigestion, it not only results in bloating but also disturbs your digestive system, which includes the stomach and intestines resulting in inflammation and a decrease in the absorption of vitamins and minerals that our body requires for good health. That would eventually result in physical ill health and show on your body and skin.

So, it is clear that the first step you must take is quitting raw rice altogether.

Secondly, I would advise:

  1. You need to cut down on milk, cheese, or any dairy products as your digestive capacity has slowed down, and dairy products require a healthy intestine for digestion and consuming it results in further bloating.
  2. You must consult a physician and undergo scans under his supervision to rule out any pathology. You also need to carry out a complete blood test to check for anemia or any deficiencies.
  3. Drink a lot of water, at least eight to nine glasses per day.
  4. Try to give your stomach a break from consuming a lot of food now; instead, stick to more drinks, juices, soups, and smoothies that help heal your digestive tract.
  5. Two weeks after you have got used to the liquid diet, start taking vitamin C chewable tablets twice daily for a month.
  6. Do not consume spicy food or anything too hot.
  7. After two weeks, you can start with semi-solid food, and also egg is a great addition, and thereby slowly go onto a regular diet.
  8. You also need to start doing light exercises and avoid sitting for long hours to help fight the weight gain and bloating.

Do follow the above steps, and last but not least, stop worrying about anything serious. You will be alright after you follow the advice.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
