Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
I have recently noticed massive changes in my weight. I have undergone a thyroid profile test. I have attached a copy of the reports below. I am asthmatic, and I do not have any other medical issues. My T4 is 0.1143 µg/dL, T3 is 9.5 ng/dL, and TSH is 3.593 mIU/L.
Do I have a thyroid problem?
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I have read your query, and I will surely help you.
I went through the reports (attachment removed to protect the patient's identity).
Weight gain may indicate low levels of thyroid hormones or hypothyroidism. The first thing I want to tell you is that the reports of thyroid you have attached are completely wrong. This is a lab error. Let me tell you one thing, T3 (triiodothyronine) and T4 (thyroxine) do not give abnormal values separately. If there is some abnormality, it will be seen in them together. If T3 increases, T4 will also be high or vice versa. Besides, once T3 and T4 are abnormal, TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) values will also be deranged. It will never happen that T3 and T4 are abnormal, and TSH is normal. This report is wrong, so kindly repeat thyroid levels from a good lab. You can send me the reports, and I will advise you of the treatment accordingly. Or you can visit your local physician for advice.
Hope this helps.
Kindly revert in case of further queries.
Thank you.
