I am lean. Please help me to gain weight.

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have a lean body. I tried many times to gain weight but failed. Should I take protein shakes or diet only? I am very upset about my body. Please help me.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Very few people ask us how to gain weight. It depends on bodies basal metabolic rate. Many people who eat too much but still will not gain weight because they have a high basal metabolic rate, which we call it as BMR in medical terminology. Some people eat very little but are fat or obese. The BMR of an individual depends on his or her genetic makeup. You can try having a high protein diet or protein supplements. I suggest you visit a nutritionist or a dietitian who can help you with proper food requirements based on your body requirements as every individual has different BMR. I hope this information helps.
