How to manage STI?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have been experiencing some unusual discharge from my penis and mild pain while urinating. This has been happening for a week now, and the symptoms are getting worse. I am not on any medication.

Please advise.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern.

If there has been unprotected sex, it is important to consider the possibility of a sexually transmitted infection (STI). Common tests to diagnose STIs include:

  1. TPHA (treponema pallidum hemagglutination).
  2. HPV DNA PCR test (human papillomavirus DNA detection with polymerase chain reaction).
  3. Herpes simplex virus (HSV) 1 and 2 IgG (immunoglobulin G).
  4. Herpes simplex virus (HSV) 1 and 2 IgM (immunoglobulin M) serum.
  5. Chlamydia trachomatis IgG.
  6. HIV 1 and 2 antibodies and screening test.
  7. Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg).
  8. A urine complete test is also advised to rule out other potential infections.

If no STIs are detected, it could simply be a bacterial infection. In that case, you can use T Bact (Mupirocin) ointment for local application and Doxycycline 100 milligrams twice a day for five days. If you are experiencing itching, consider the possibility of a fungal infection. In this case, apply Candid B (Beclometasone and Clotrimazole) ointment locally and take Cetzine (Cetirizine) tablets once a night for itching relief. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her, and take the medicines with their consent.

Additionally, make sure to wash your genitalia twice a day (morning and night) using lukewarm water, avoid using cold or hot water. It is also important not to use soaps with a heavy pH, as they can irritate the skin. Please consult a healthcare professional for an accurate diagnosis and treatment plan.

I hope I have addressed your concerns. Feel free to reach out if you have further questions or need additional guidance.

Wishing you good health.

Thank you.
