Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

White small patches have appeared on my outer hands and cheekbones. They seem to be brighter than my skin and consist of little tiny dots. Furthermore, their number appears to be increasing. Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understood your concern.

I have reviewed the pictures you attached (attachments removed to protect the patient’s identity). If you think it is spreading and itching, it strongly suggests a fungal skin infection. I suggest you follow the below-mentioned instructions to help alleviate the symptoms:

  1. Topical antifungal creams or ointments: These are commonly used to treat fungal infections on the skin. They can help alleviate symptoms and eliminate the fungal infection. Some common over-the-counter options include Clotrimazole, Miconazole, Terbinafine, or Ketoconazole creams.
  2. Oral antifungal medications: In certain cases, oral antifungal medications may be prescribed if the infection is severe or widespread. These medications work from within the body to eliminate the fungal infection.
  3. Good hygiene practices: Keep the affected area clean and dry to prevent the growth and spread of fungi. Avoid sharing personal items like towels or clothing with others.
  4. Lifestyle adjustments: Fungal infections can be recurrent, so take preventive measures. This include wearing loose-fitting clothing, keeping the skin dry, avoiding prolonged exposure to moisture, and using antifungal powders.

I hope this has helped you. Kindly follow up if you have more doubts.

Thank you.
