Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My wisdom tooth has been causing pain for the past month. After taking medicine, the pain subsided, but the swelling in my gums continued to increase. I experienced a similar episode of pain and infection in my wisdom tooth six months ago. At that time, I did not seek medical attention, and the pain eventually resolved on its own. Currently, my gums around the wisdom tooth are infected and filled with pus. I have also undergone X-rays. Kindly help.

Hello,

I am glad you chose icliniq for your medical-related queries.

I understand your concern. Recurrent swelling and pus mean that the source of infection is still present and dental treatment should be performed. The treatment options include either a root canal treatment if it can be easily accessed and your mouth opening allows the dentist to perform it or extraction. It is advisable to begin a course of antibiotics such as Augmentin (a combination of Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid) 1 g every 12 hours for one week. Consult your dentist after four days of starting the antibiotic course for in-office treatment and continue taking the antibiotics for the remaining three days.

I hope you are satisfied with my answer. For further queries, you can consult me at icliniq. Thank you.
