Why am I having frequent bowel movements post-extraction?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I had my left lower wisdom teeth extracted before a week and stitches are still there and yet to be removed. I am on Paracetamol and other painkillers. The problem is I do not have any pain in my mouth. But, I feel exhausted, restless and I just cannot wake up from my bed. Also, my bowel movements are not perfect. I feel like going to the bathroom again and again like irritable bowel syndrome. Can you please tell me about my sickness?

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your complaint and the relevant details.

You have also mentioned that you are on Paracetamol tablets. It is a mere painkiller and has zero side effects on your bowel movements. But, if you were prescribed antibiotics after wisdom tooth removal, then I suspect that your bowel disturbances are the side effects of the antibiotics. Otherwise, your wrong diet such as extra spicy food, etc., could be a reason for the current situation.

Also, make sure you drink sufficient water to keep yourself hydrated, and this helps you get rid of the tiredness. Talking about the stitches, they should be removed by the dentist probably tomorrow making sure that the wound is healing well. A few tips for a fresh morning are eating nutritious the whole day, hitting the bed earlier every night, avoiding using gadgets before sleep, and keep sipping water throughout the day for at least a minimum of 3 liters per day

I hope this helps.

Thank you
