Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I had protected sex on the third day of my period and had taken unwanted 72. It has been over ten days since my period date, and I have not got my period. Today I had my pregnancy test, which came negative. What to do to have my periods regularly?

Thank you.

Hi,

Thank you for stopping by!

I am here to provide expert opinions on your medical issues.

I do not see any chance of pregnancy. First of all, you had protection. You were in your early period days and had taken emergency pills too. For any lady ovulation occurs around 12 to 16th day of her period. The life of a sperm is 72 hours and that of an egg is 24 hours, so there is no chance that the egg was alive, or available for the sperm. Sperms do not stay alive till the next ovulation. So there was no need to take the pill. This pill is a high dose of progesterone hormone, which disturbs the normal hormonal balance. Hence, your periods got disturbed. As you have already confirmed negative pregnancy, have any oral combined birth control pills or contraceptive pills, one tablet twice a day for ten days. This will help you get your period within seven to ten days. Pregnancy is not the only reason for missed or irregular periods. It could also be a sudden increase or decrease in weight, polycystic ovarian disorder, a thyroid or Prolactin hormone abnormality, or any significant mental or physical stress. Consult your physician and take medicines accordingly.

Hope I have clarified your query, do write back if you have any more queries.

Thank you.
