What causes swelling on the face in a 17-month-old?

Hi doctor,

My son is 17 months old. He has a swollen upper lip on the inside of his mouth. It is not pus filled, just swollen. Both cheeks are puffed up because of the swelling. The swelling started overnight. Also, he has a fever. One side of the molar came out. Is this because of teething or an allergic reaction?

Please suggest a medicine for my baby's gas problem.

Hi doctor,

My daughter is 28 days old. She is suffering from gas problem. I am not sure if it is colic pain as she does not cry a lot, but she is struggling to pass gas. She is squeezing her entire body to pass gas and due to this, she is not able to sleep properly. She will wake up in the middle of sleep to pass gas. She does cry sometimes while passing urine, motion and gas. After seeing this, we gave her gripe water for two days of about 0.25 mL when she was 15 days old. I consulted a pediatrician and he suggested Colpep drops 8 drops day and night. We tried this for one week, but we did not see any improvement. So, our pediatrician advised Neopeptine 8 drops day and night along with Colpep in 10 minutes interval. Also, he told to use both drops after breastfeed. I gave this for two days and realized that both medicines looks similar. When I consulted another pediatrician, he said not to give both and only either one of that should be given. I am very confused now and worried as I have already given both drops together for two days. Will it cause any problem to my baby? Please suggest which medicine to give for gas trouble? How long it will take to cure? Can we give gripe water?

I am really fed up with different opinions from everyone. Is it mandatory to give medicine for gas trouble? I heard it will gradually subside at around 4 to 5 months of age. I feel that we have given too many things to her like Colpep, Neopeptine and gripe water. I feel that she should not get affected by these medicines. Please help me out.

My 45 days old baby is fussy and aggressive while I feed her. What to do?

Hi doctor,

My baby girl is 45 days old. She is fully breastfed. At many times, she seems to be fussy and aggressive while I nurse her. I rule out either the possibility of milk being too fast or too slow since on both occasions she seems to react the same. After being fussy, she appears to be on and off from my nipple and screams when I pull her off from my breast and cries when offered milk. After crying for a few minutes, I swing her and she goes back to sleep. Her crying is so painful to watch. Can you help me with this?

I have twin baby girls. One of them is not gaining weight. Please help.

Hi doctor,

I had a month old twin baby girls. They were born in the 34th week of pregnancy. One baby was 2.2 Kg, and the other was a little weaker weighing 2 Kg. Since there is not enough mother's milk after several attempts, I had to go for artificial milk powder. Initially, as suggested by the hospital pediatrician, they were given Dexolac Special Care, but after 20th day when their weight was around 2.4 Kg, they were given to Dexolac Premium 1. Out of the 2 babies, the weaker baby is responding well and quickly gaining weight (taking around 75 ml milk every 3 hours). But the baby which was born stronger is not drinking sufficient milk (45 ml in one feed, at an interval of around 3 hours), and is taking around an hour to take one feed. Also, she is having issues of gas and constipation. Because of constipation, she keeps crying. Now, this baby is not gaining weight and seem to be weaker. Please suggest what we can do in this case and shall we switch her milk to Lactogen or some other company?
