Is it normal for someone to have discoloration and tenderness around the navel after six weeks of a tummy tuck procedure and liposuction?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I underwent a full tummy tuck procedure with muscle repair and liposuction of the tummy and flanks before six weeks. I am a bit concerned about my belly button and its color. Is it normal at this point of recovery? Also, I still feel tender, especially around the above and below the belly button area. And I still have hard areas from liposuction. I want to make sure that these are normal aspects of recovery. And is there anything that I should know about the tender belly button?

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

Tenderness and hardness in a few areas post-liposuction are common. You should recover completely between three to four weeks. Also, mild skin discoloration may take slightly longer, between five to six weeks, to return to normal color.

I hope this has helped you.

Kindly follow up if there is severe pain, redness, or pus discharge.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you for your reply.

Are you saying the liposuction hardness should heal in three to four more weeks (but I am past six weeks now), and discoloration should take another five to six weeks? Or should these things already be resolved, given that I am in my six weeks post-operative? Also, can I use ointment on the belly button?

Please help.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, hardness takes about ten weeks (you have already completed six weeks), and skin discoloration takes a few more weeks to get better. Unless there is a pus discharge, there is no need to use any ointment on your belly button.

I hope this has helped you.

Take care.
