Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am an 18-year-old female, 5 feet 2 inches tall, and weigh 198 pounds. I have been experiencing abdominal pain for the last 27 hours. It initially began as cramping and a mild burning sensation in the center and lower center of my abdomen around 10 pm. I attributed it to having an IUD and my GP's suspicion of peptic ulcers about a month and a half ago. When I woke up this morning, I felt nauseous, had cramps similar to those during my period, and felt disoriented. As the day progressed, I developed a headache, occasional sharp pain, and pressure in my lower right abdomen. The cramps subsided, but a burning pain began radiating throughout my entire middle and lower left abdomen. I also experienced occasional dull stabbing pain in my upper left abdomen. In the past 2-3 hours, my face has become very hot, and my middle and right abdomen is slightly sore but mainly has dull pains. My upper left abdomen has sudden, intense, radiating dull pain, as well as sharp pressure pain in my lower right abdomen when I attempt to use the toilet. Throughout all of this, I have had constant dull back pain that shifts between the middle center and lower center. I am uncertain about the appropriate course of action at this stage or whether it is a cause for concern. I suspect it might be related to gastroenteritis since I consumed chicken with an odd smell two days ago. Please help.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I read your query and understand your concern.

Considering the symptoms you have described, it is important to seek immediate medical attention. Abdominal pain can have a range of causes, and it is vital to have a healthcare professional assess your symptoms to identify the underlying issue and provide the necessary treatment.

Given your history of an IUD and prior concerns about peptic ulcers, it is possible that your current symptoms are related to these conditions. However, there are various other potential causes, including gastrointestinal infections or other abdominal problems. When consulting with a healthcare professional, make sure to provide a comprehensive description of all your symptoms, including the burning pain, cramps, nausea, headache, and the specific areas where you are experiencing pain. This information will assist them in conducting a thorough evaluation, possibly ordering relevant tests or imaging studies, and offering appropriate guidance and treatment.

In the meantime, you can try some self-care measures to help with your symptoms, such as getting adequate rest, staying well-hydrated, and avoiding foods that might worsen your condition. But, it is very important to consult with a healthcare professional for a proper diagnosis and the most suitable treatment plan.

Thank you.
