Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am almost 18 years old. I have been struggling with acne for about eight years now. I have tried many different types of face washes and topical treatments. I have gone to the dermatologist, and they prescribed me a face wash with Benzoyl Peroxide and lotion with acne treatment in it too. It made my face so sensitive, red, and dry. I tried Retin-A, but it makes my face peel and I can hardly touch it because it is so sensitive. I have been on birth control for about four years, and have switched to different kinds trying to see what will work. Nothing has worked. I have been taking Doxycycline Mono for about a year, and it worked for about one month. Now it is awful again. I have combination skin. It is oily but I have patches of dry skin everywhere. I have a Greek and Italian background. I get whiteheads, blackheads, and ones that ache and do not come through the top layer of my skin (causing me awful headaches). At this point, I feel like nothing will help. I have white spots all over my body, like spots that do not tan in the sun, not sure if that has anything to do with what is causing my acne. At this point I am so tired of having acne, my self-esteem is so awful. Please suggest.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and understand your concern.

Acne Vulgaris is a common skin problem in adolescents and adulthood it involves pilosebaceous follicles or oil glands and is therefore seen to involve areas where oil glands are dense like the face, chest, back, and upper arms are common sites of involvement. In your case looks like grade 1 to grade 2 acne. Please get back with a picture for confirmation.

I suggest you start using:

1. Faceclin gel [Clindamycin Topical(1 % w/w) and Nicotinamide(4 % w/w)] during day time over pimples and Microbenz 3.5 % gel at night hour over the whole face for around two to three months.

2. For cleaning the face you can use face care (Glycyrrhiza glabra and Turmeric oil) face wash twice daily

3. You have to do certain dietary restrictions like not eating oily spicy food, junk food, milk products, and nonvegetarian foods and use lots of water which hydrates your skin.

All medicine should be used after consulting your physician or nearby dermatologist. I hope you find this helpful.

Thank you.
