Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I started getting acne at 23. Before that, I had perfect skin. I do not have PCOS, and I am not taking any birth control pills. My skin is also very sensitive. Even natural products like tomato breaks me out. I took Doxycycline for two months, but it did not help. Please help.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have seen your query and concern.

Please get a review with a picture, if possible, for better evaluation. Firstly, you need to consult a dermatologist nearby to assess the grade and severity of acne or get a review with pictures. If acne is mild, then topical anti-acne creams like Clindamycin, Adapalene, etc., will help. If acne is severe, then oral medicines like Azithromycin or Doxycycline with or without Isotretinoin should be started along with anti-acne creams.

Following are some of the general treatment measures:

1. Use a face wash for oily skin like Ahaglow (Acrylate copolymer and sodium laureth sulfate) or Cetaphil (sodium lauroyl sarcosinate, sodium laureth sulfate, and butylene glycol) as a cleanser to wash your face.

2. Apply Clindamycin gel in the morning and Adapalene gel at night over the acne lesions.

3. If you have blackheads or whiteheads, get these removed.

4. Avoid squeezing pimples as it will leave a mark.

Follow these above measures for two weeks to see how much response you get. If the acne is of mild grade, then it will respond. But if it is of severe grade, then oral medicine will be required.

Hope this helps.

Regards.
