Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have acne marks but not so severe and new acne has been forming for the last two months. What should I do? Please suggest.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have gone through the details and image provided (attachment removed to protect patient identity) from your end and understand your concern.

Acne and acne scars can develop for multiple reasons, especially genetic susceptibility and hormonal fluctuations. Any underlying medical conditions like PCOD (polycystic ovarian disease) can cause acne. Apart from the same consuming more oily and fried food, sweets, red meat, full-fat milk, and butter and ghee can cause the development of acne and acne scarring. Using skin care products thick moisturizers and sunscreens daily can also increase the formation of acne. Picking or touching acne frequently can lead to scarring, which is difficult to treat.

I suggest the following:

1. Capsule Microdox LBX (Doxycycline and Lactobacillus) one capsule after breakfast and one capsule after dinner for seven days. This is an antibiotic that is meant for acne. In case of any previous history of allergy to this antibiotic please avoid its usage.

2. Tablet Pantoprazole 40 mg one tablet 30 minutes before breakfast and one tablet 30 mins before dinner for seven days to prevent acidity from antibiotics.

3. Use a face wash on the entire face massage in gentle circular motions for one minute and wash off. Use in the morning and at night.

4. Peroclin 2.5% gel (Benzoyl peroxide and Clindamycin). Apply on the pimples in the morning after using the face wash and dab into the affected area. Use for 2 to 3 months till the acne subsides and in case of future recurrences.

5. Cleargel AP gel (Adapalene and Clindamycin). Apply on the pimples at night after using the face wash and dab into the affected area. Use for 12 to 16 weeks or till the acne subsides and in case of future recurrences.

6. Capsule Zitcare (Zinc) after dinner daily for two months. This is a multivitamin meant for acne.

7. Zitmoist gel as a moisturizer in case you experience dryness due to the acne treatment.

8. Kojivit ultra gel on dark spots and pigmented areas and not on acne. Apply at night in a very thin layer on the dark spots, keep it overnight, and wash it off in the morning. Use daily for the next 3 to 4 months till the pigmentation reduces in intensity.

9. Chemical peeling methods which are usually done at skin clinics by a doctor can be considered. In this method, a chemical peeling solution is applied onto the face, kept for 10 minutes, and then cleaned up and is usually done every two weeks for six sessions. This helps reduce acne, and oil secretion and for reducing pigmentation and acne scarring.

10. Avoid oily and fried food, sweets, red meat, milk, and dairy products. Consume more fruits, vegetables, fiber, and at least 2.5 liters of water per day. Make sure to consult a gynecologist in case of any underlying PCOS or any other medical condition

I hope I could be of help.

Thank you.
