What could cause acne on cheeks, chin, and forehead?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have acne on my cheeks, chin, and forehead, even after following a proper cleaning routine. I wash my face twice daily with gentle face cleaner and also use an aloe vera gel.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

As per the history provided, it may be acne vulgaris. However, acne usually appears due to multiple factors, including hormonal changes, climate changes, dietary imbalances, genetic factors, and the use of certain skin products. Therefore, to manage acne, I suggest you follow these measures.

(Consult your specialist doctor, talk with them, and take medications with their consent.)

1. Use Salicylic Acid 2 % and Glycolic Acid face wash. Apply twice daily, massage gently in a circular motion for one minute, and wash off.

2. Peroclin gel 2.5 % (Clindamycin and Benzoyl Peroxide) to be used in the morning after cleaning with the face wash for two months. Apply only on the acne lesions.

3. Take chewable Ascorbic acid (Vitamin C) 500 mg tablet after food twice daily for two months.

4. Avoid sweets, oily and fried food, milk and dairy products, and red meat.

5. Consume more fruits and vegetables, and adequate water intake is adviced.

6. Facial chemical peels and laser therapy are procedures done by dermatologists in sessions that help in better recovery of acne. Kindly consult a dermatologist in person to undergo the procedures.

Acne may be on and off depending on hormonal changes, climate, and dietary changes. Therefore, management of acne may have to be done frequently till the acne lesions lessen in appearance. For this reason, consistency is critical.

I hope I was helpful to you.

Thank you.
