Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I feel drowsy and have a blood-red throat, loss of appetite, and migraine. Should I be concerned about tonsillitis?
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Your symptoms suggest tonsillitis (inflammation of tonsils) associated with pharyngitis and sinusitis (inflammation and infection of the pharynx and sinuses, respectively). It is an upper respiratory tract infection; hence, you lose appetite. The upper respiratory tract is very close to the head or brain; hence you have migraine or headaches. Since it is an acute attack of tonsillitis associated with sinusitis and pharyngitis, we have to treat the cause and take care of the diet. Follow the below steps; 1. Avoid any cold drinks, and take warm liquids. 2. Avoid sour fruits like lemon. 3. Avoid fried foods for a few days until you recover. 4. Do warm saline water gargles three times a day. 5. Do steam inhalation twice a day. 6. I suggest (consult with a specialist doctor, talk with him or her and take medicines with their consent) the following medications: 1. Tablet Azithromycin 1000 mg once daily for three days or tablet Azithromycin 500 mg once daily for five days after meals. 2. Tablet Loratidine 10 mg once daily.
Patient's Query
Thank you doctor for the reply,
I have tablet Amoxicillin 500 mg. Can I take that or consult a doctor for other antibiotic?
Hi,
Welcome back to icliniq.com.
I suggest tablet Amoxicillin 500 mg thrice daily instead of tablet Azithromycin. You have to differentiate between migraine and headache due to cold. If it is headaches due to cold, it can be relieved after the medication and on treating cold. However, if it is a migraine or one sided headache, associated with nausea and giddiness which is relieved after vomiting then there will be a different treatment for migraine.
