Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am an adult having three children with ADHD and they are taking Vyvanse. I can see that I am also suffering from it. My whole life is struggling a lot and I am not sticking to my job for a long time. I never finish anything and I am not being organized. I get frustrated with myself as failure is becoming obvious and my kids joke about me as I am being like them. I was taking Ritalin from the age of 14 to 17 years and I passed my grades. I feel ashamed.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

You experience ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) as a parent of three children and it is fairly common. By observing their children, many parents realize that they had similar problems related to ADHD. It helped you to know that you were taking Ritalin (Methylphenidate) in your teenage years. So I presume that you were diagnosed with ADHD. But the treatment was not taken continuously.

As you have ADHD symptoms now, it is good to see your physician soon and have a specialist referral for managing adult ADHD. Many people in their forty years manage their symptoms after getting the right diagnosis and appropriate treatment. Depending on the assessment and evaluation of your physical health, your psychiatrist will be able to decide whether it is safe for you to take medication for treating ADHD. Apart from medication, you can also use cognitive-behavioral strategies to manage ADHD symptoms.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
