Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My son is 5 years old and has ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder). He is taking Methylphenidate and some supplements. Recently, he underwent a blood test as advised by the child psychiatrist. Everything is normal, but his blood urea level came in at 44 mg/dL, while his creatinine level is normal at 0.4 mg/dL. Please help; I am very much worried. Despite this, he is active and doing well.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

A slightly elevated blood urea level may not necessarily indicate a problem, as it can be influenced by various factors. A creatinine level within the normal range is a positive sign. Do not worry too much if your child is active and doing well.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

Also, does Methylphenidate work? He recently started taking it. Should I encourage him to drink more water?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Methylphenidate is a medication used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, and its effectiveness can vary from person to person. Staying hydrated is generally important for overall health, and it is a good idea to encourage your child to drink an adequate amount of water.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

How much water should he consume at this age? He is experiencing cough and cold symptoms due to the seasonal transition.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Individual needs can vary based on factors such as activity level, climate, and health conditions. During illness, it is essential to ensure adequate hydration, as it can aid in recovery. Encourage your child to drink water regularly throughout the day, and you can also offer hydrating foods like fruits.

Thank you.

Then, there is not much to worry about regarding the urea level. Can I give him a normal diet? Please advise.

Hello,

A balanced and healthy diet is beneficial for overall well-being. Ensure your child gets a variety of nutrient-rich foods, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

I could not sleep the whole night thinking about the urea level. I will ensure a good diet and hydration. Is 33 fluid ounces of water enough?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Yes, 33 fluid ounces of water is sufficient.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

My son's growth hormone level came in at 0.24 ng/mL. Is this normal for his age? The normal range is up to 50 ng/mL.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

If it is within the specified range, then it is considered normal.

Thank you.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor for the reply,

I read on the internet that it should be 10 ng/mL. I know relying on internet searches is not always the best idea, but could you please let me know if a level of 0.24 ng/mL is okay?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

When it comes to growth hormone issues, it is advisable to consult a pediatric endocrinology specialist for a detailed analysis.

I hope your queries are resolved, and any further queries are welcome. Thank you.
