Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
About three weeks ago, I noticed a bald spot on my head, which is painful and itchy. Also, I have lost my hair in the area. Currently, I am using birth control medicines. Kindly help.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I understand your concern. You have Alopecia areata, an autoimmune condition with non-scarring patchy hair loss. Though the condition can affect anyone, it is more common in diabetics and thyroid patients. I suggest you get tested for these conditions. The first line of treatment for alopecia areata is an intralesional injection of steroids, in which the drug is injected into the area on the skin involved. However, it may not be possible for you. Instead, I suggest you use topical cream Temovate (Clobetasol propionate) 0.05 % that is to be applied on the affected patch and also one centimeter beyond the margins for six weeks. The treatment can be continued for six months if the condition responds well. I hope this helps. Kindly revert after six weeks. Take care.
