Can taking a high fiber diet and drinking plenty of fluids help relieve anal fissures?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had anal fissures for the past three years. Initially, there was only a small lump; however, it progressed to itching, constipation, and blood in the stools. I have recently started getting fever with chills, mostly when I eat spicy foods. Also, I used to get a fever rarely. However, now the frequency has increased. I have used ayurvedic tablets, ointment, and drops. However, nothing has helped.

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. I suggest you take more salads and fruits, a simple and light diet, avoid oily, spicy, and non-vegetarian foods for a few weeks, and drink plenty of water daily. I also suggest the below treatment plan for five days:

  1. Tablet Pan 40 (Pantoprazole) once daily on an empty stomach.
  2. Tablet Zerodol-SP (Aceclofenac, Paracetamol, and Serratiopeptidase) twice daily.
  3. Tablet Clavum 625 (Amoxycillin and Clavulanic Acid) twice a day.
  4. Cream Proctosedyl BD (Phenylephrine, Beclometasone, and Lidocaine) to be applied to the affected area twice a day.
  5. Syrup Cremaffin Plus (Liquid Paraffin, Milk of Magnesia, and Sodium Picosulphate) four teaspoons in 6.5 fl oz of lukewarm water at night for a few weeks.

I hope this helps.

Kindly revert after five days.

Thank you.
