Could the anal itching and protrusion of a mass from the anus indicate rectal prolapse?

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 43-year-old female. Around nine months ago, I started to suffer from anal itching. It is rather intense at night, after passing stool, and during or after having anal intercourse or anal masturbation. I also have a few lumps on my anus ring that seem to grow outside of my anus hole as an extended piece of flesh. They are very sensitive, but they are odd, and it really troubles me. I am normally healthy. I am 178 centimeters in height and 75 kilograms in weight. I would like to mention that I was born as a male, but I have been living as a female since my early twenties. I used to be more sexually active up until five years ago, but now I have only one partner. I would like to know what is this condition I have and how it can be treated.

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I have read your query and understand your concern. I have seen the attached picture (The attachment is removed to protect the privacy of the person). As per the details, it seems that you are suffering from a condition called prolapse. It is due to the loosening of the anal sphincter, usually as a result of anal intercourse. The treatment of rectal prolapse depends on the degree of prolapse, which is assessed by an expert surgeon after proper inspection and examination. I will advise you to visit your surgeon at the earliest so that timely treatment can be started.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

Thank you so much for the quick and professional response and for also being so kind. I have a few questions. When I was looking through the web, I saw a similar picture to what I have, and it said it could be an anal wart. Do you think this is possible? I was wondering if there is any specific diet I need to take and if there are any lotions or creams I can apply so that discomfort will be minimal. I usually put some vaseline around the anus hole and inside before I go to sleep and sometimes during the day. Also, is it best to wash the anus area with soap and hot water, or should I use mild-temperature water and no soap? What about the use of toilet paper? Is it advisable, or should I use wipes? I typically use paper, but when the itch is intense, I use wipes. As for sexual intercourse, is it advisable to keep having anal intercourse with my partner? As you can imagine, this is an important aspect of the relationship, so I hope I do not need to let go of it. Would using soft toys and hands be better at this stage? Last but not least, is this a condition that I can keep living with without seeking medical treatment?

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

I have read all your queries. I will try my best to clear your doubts one by one. Regarding your first query, there is also a possibility of anal warts, and it cannot be ignored. That is why I advised you to visit your surgeon so that they can examine you thoroughly. Regarding your second query, you may use soap and water to clean the area. Soap is the best disinfectant. There is no harm in applying topical vaseline cream over the area. I always advise my patients to have minimal use of chemicals over the skin. Tissue wipes contain fragrances and additional chemicals. It is not advisable to use them on a regular basis. Regarding your last query, I will not advise you to have anal intercourse. But the choice is yours. It will be better if you visit your doctor once so that a proper examination and evaluation of the part can be done. If you have any further queries, you may ask me.

Stay healthy.
