Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I consulted a gynecologist for irregular bleeding since two months and hair loss. The following actions made by me is mentioned chronologically.I went to a gynecologist and she suggested TSH blood test and ultrasound scan. The TSH reading was 5.8 and the scanning report is normal. The gynecologist referred me to an endocrinologist. The endocrinologist suggested for Anti-TPO test and the test reading was 488. The endocrinologist suggested 25 mcg Thyronorm tablets every morning up to three months and intimated for a review after three months. To confirm the lab result, I went to another lab after two days and undertook the blood test. The result was TSH 3.18 and Anti-TPO was above 1000. Again, I went to another lab after two days, and the result was TSH 3.98. Until now, I have not taken any medicine. I am confused with the above results. Please suggest me.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I just read your query and your detailed information about yourself.

From what you have mentioned, it appears that you did have a slightly high TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) but that does not mean that you have to take thyroid medications. It is not recommended to do so according to the endocrine guidelines. Yes, you do have Anti-TPO antibodies and these mean that you might develop hypothyroidism in the future. You do not have to worry about it now unless of course you are pregnant and then you have to be closely monitored for thyroid function tests. As of now just keep repeating your thyroid function test every three months.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
