Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My depression was chronic but triggered by certain events. I have been taking anti-depression medicine for the last year. I feel better but I want to quit the medicines. How can l quit the medicine?

Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I went through your query and understood your concern.

You have not mentioned the dose of your medications. So it is difficult for me to explain to you about tapering your medications. I suggest you gradually decrease doses every four weeks, then you can stop it. There is non-pharmacological management for your depression. I suggest you follow the instructions mentioned below.

1. You should do exercises daily for 30 to 45 minutes.

2. Do meditation for 20 minutes daily.

3. Eat healthy home-cooked foods, and avoid junk foods.

4. Drink enough water.

5. Spend quality time with friends and family daily or do video calls if you are living away from your family.

6. Spend time on creative hobbies like reading good books, writing journals, painting, drawing, and learning new skills.

7. Take enough seven to eight hours of sleep daily.

8. Avoid tobacco or alcohol or any substance abuse.

9. Try to be bold and confident.

I also suggest you do the following blood tests.

1. CBC (complete blood count).

2. Thyroid profile.

3. Vitamin B12.

4. Vitamin D3.

If you still have symptoms that persist after following the advice for four to six weeks, then I suggest you consult a psychiatrist.

I hope this has helped you.

Thanks and regards.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
