Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I have had anxiety all of my life. Recently, it ramped up, and I am having sleep jerks at night (including tongue jerks) and muscle twitching. Could this all be anxiety?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome to the icliniq.com.

Please consider that having some limb jerks at the beginning of sleep is normal. However, the tongue jerk is not a normal phenomenon. I need more data about your widespread muscle twitches. When have they started? Do you feel any weakness in your limbs? Do you have any muscle wasting along with those twitches? Do you feel such twitches in your tongue (apart from the ones you have mentioned )? In addition, I have some concerns about your medications. Even though psychiatrists sometimes use a combination of medications, taking Prozac (Fluoxetine) and Pristiq (Desvenlafaxine) can increase the possibility of the occurrence of "serotonin syndrome." It is a serious and potentially life-threatening condition. Muscle twitches might result from various underlying causes, however, as they are among the possible symptoms of serotonin syndrome. I strongly recommend you contact your primary care physician to evaluate and examine you for the possibility of serotonin syndrome immediately.

I hope this helps. Thank you.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

No, I do not have any tongue twitches during the day. Also there is no muscle wasting, weakness, or atrophy seen.

Hello,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Thanks for your response. It is good. The first diagnosis, at present, is a medication side effect, as I explained to you previously. Therefore, please contact your primary care physician for necessary evaluation and drug review. If the muscle twitches continue after medications, we can proceed to consider other possible causes.

I hope this helps. Thank you.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
