What factors contribute to anxiety disorders?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am a 27 years old male who has been struggling with symptoms of anxiety for the past three years, and I am finding it increasingly challenging to overcome them. Over the years, I have experienced persistent feelings of unease, restlessness, and a constant sense of worry. I often find it difficult to concentrate, and I frequently experience racing thoughts and difficulty sleeping. Lately, I have noticed that these symptoms have intensified, impacting my daily life and overall well-being. Are there specific treatment approaches, such as therapy or medication, that you would recommend? Are there any lifestyle changes or coping strategies that could help me manage my anxiety symptoms more effectively?

Kindly help.

Hello,

Welcome toicliniq.com.

I read your query and can understand your concern.

The symptoms you mentioned qualify for generalized anxiety disorder (GAD).

The symptoms of GAD are characterized by :

1. Episodes of palpitation, sweating, restlessness, chest discomfort, breathing difficulty, abdominal discomfort, muscle aches and muscle cramps, dizziness, fear of going crazy, and fear of dying at the moment.

2. Free floating anxiety (excessive worry and fear about past, present, and future events).

3. Decreased attention and concentration.

4. Exaggerated response to minor surprises.

5. Persistent irritability.

6. Difficulty getting to sleep because of worrying.

Management includes medical and psychological management.

For the time being, we will discuss a few behavioral strategies:

1. Organise your day with a proper schedule and try to achieve at least 40 % of your schedule.

2. Early morning exercises which may include stretching exercises followed by meditation as much as you can.

3. Engage yourself in activities during your leisure time.

4. Fixed sleep and waking up time.

5. Practice breathing and relaxation exercises.

For further management, consult a local psychiatrist.

Hope this information helps you. Get well soon.
