Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My 14-year-old was in a fight with her younger brother, and she had been kicked and punched multiple times in her arm around her elbow. When she told me her arm was hurting, I told her it was only bruised and that she should rest it, put some ice on it, and take some pain medication. Now it is been almost a week, and she still cannot move her arm without intense pain. She has also experienced numbness and tingling in her arm from the elbow down to her hand. I am worried now that it may be more than just a bruise. Is this normal, or is something more serious that I should have her checked for? Please help.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I can understand your concern.

Yes, you should go for a checkup.

There could be a hairline fracture, or it could be a ligament injury. Tingling suggests nerve compression due to inflammation and edema. I would suggest you consult an orthopedician and get her examined. You need to carry out an elbow X-ray to rule out internal injury. Further treatment will proceed accordingly. Meanwhile, you can give her painkillers.

I hope this helps you.

Regards.
