Can ascites lead to a bloated feeling in the stomach with constipation and flatulence?

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I have a bloated feeling in the stomach with less than three defecations per week and also have flatulence. Kindly give your opinion.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Actually, this can be due to acidity and constipation. A low fiber diet is the main cause of such symptoms.

Can you please tell me:

1) Since when did you have constipation?

2) Have you ever noticed blood in stool?

I suggest you take syrup Lactulose 15 ml once before sleep. Include a high fiber diet such as banana, apple, etc.

Please answer the questions for further help.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you.

I have no blood in the stool. I have had constipation for eight months. I did a CT scan and blood work. Now my recommendation from my doctor is colonoscopy from my CT scan results. I will attach them. Kindly give your opinion.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Please attach the CT (computed tomography) scan results so that I can give a better opinion.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you.

I have spoken to another doctor on here live that looked at my results and said I had nothing much to worry about. I still need to figure out exactly what is going on, being that I still feel this way.

I feel bloated when I lay down on my left side. Sometimes my upper stomach feels full, and I have gas.

They said they would look into intestinal walls because of residue to see if it looks normal and to see if anything else is going on. Kindly give your opinion.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Actually, reports are normal, but CT is showing renal stone and mild ascites (attachments removed to protect the patient's identity). I hope this was helpful.

Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

Thank you.

So with the colonoscopy, what findings would they be looking for? Should I be concerned? I did a search on ascites, and it does not seem good. Kindly give your opinion.

Answered by Dr. Sugreev Singh

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Ascites are free fluid present in the abdomen cavity. It can be due to infection, so it has to be removed by ascitic tap. Ascitic tapping is done to remove the free fluid. It is simple, they put a needle, and then fluid flows, then they take some for testing to find out what it is.

Do not be worried.

I hope this was helpful.
