How can shortness of breath and allergy in kids be cured?

This Premium Q&A, reviewed and published, features a real conversation between an iCliniq user and a physician.

Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

My son, aged 15 years, has been suffering from allergies since his childhood. He will have a cough and vomiting whenever it is attacked, mostly in the winter. We use Asthalin and Sereflo, and sometimes, with nebulization, he will be fine for some days.

Please advise a permanent cure for his problem.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

From the medication you have detailed, he is being treated for asthma.

  1. Any positive family history?
  2. Does he have chest tightness, shortness of breath, or wheezing during the episode?
  3. Is there any seasonal variation or exacerbation in winter?

Asthma is due to hyper airway responsiveness to airborne allergens.

Treatment includes:

  1. Prevention of episodes and management of acute asthma. Identifying and avoiding the allergen remains the mainstay.
  2. Inhaled corticosteroids control the hyper airway responsiveness and the occurrence of episodes.
  3. Asthalin and nebulization remain the treatment for acute episodes. As I have told you, for any allergic disease, avoidance of the merger should be done and followed. You may go to an allergic specialist to help you identify the allergens.

I hope this helps.

Thank you.
