Patient's Query

Hi doctor,

I am 21 years old now. I am suffering from asthma for more than 17 years. It was horrible until my 15 years of age. It was pretty bad. But the severity has reduced now.

It usually occurs at night time. Sometimes it happens in the daytime too. Wheezing is present, and there is chest tightness. I am taking Foracort 400 Rotacap during breathlessness. I am taking the tablet for the past four to five years.

Hi,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

Having night symptoms mean that your asthma is not well controlled and upgrading the treatment is required. Foracort Inhaler 400 mg is a right combination that is used daily.

I recommend you take Singulair 4 mg tablet (Montelukast) once daily in the evening. Use blue inhaler during the time of exacerbation every five minutes till 20 minutes. If there is no improvement, you should visit the nearest ER (emergency). Also, let me know if you have a PEFR (peak expiratory flow rate) chart.

Patient's Query

Thank you doctor,

Is the condition completely curable? For how long should I need to follow these medications? Can I use Foracot as long as I can? Should I need to change the medicines entirely for curing the conditions? I do not have the chart.

Hi,

Welcome back to icliniq.com.

Asthma is a chronic condition that cannot be cured completely. You cannot stop the medications as your condition can get worse. Foracort (Budesonide with Formoterol) is a right combination for your case.

But we can also add some other drugs to achieve the desired control. I recommend you use the PEFR chart. It will help you to gain a better outcome.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
