Patient's Query
Hi doctor,
I am suffering from a chronic allergy. I have a frequent cough and cold. I am using Montelukast sodium and Levocetirizine. It prevents the symptoms. But when I stop taking it, the cough gets increased.
Please help.
Hi,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
Based on your history, it is evident that you are experiencing allergic rhinitis and bronchial asthma. To confirm this, you should undergo spirometry, also known as a pulmonary function test (PFT). If the results are significant, it is important to begin regular inhaler therapy. While Montelukast and Levocetirizine can help manage asthma symptoms, the most effective treatment is consistent inhaler use.
I suggest you start using the combination of Budesonide and Formoterol inhaler, taking two puffs twice daily with a Zerostat VT spacer, followed by gargling with cold water. Continue taking Montelukast and Levocetirizine as prescribed, and maintain regular follow-ups with your doctor. Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with him or her, and take the medicines with their consent.
Thank you.
