Patient's Query

Hello doctor,

I am 28 years old and I was diagnosed with stage 2 avascular necrosis of the femoral head. I do not feel any pain. The bone scan is also negative. Is something going wrong? The first diagnosis was done three and a half months ago. I walked with crutches for one month and now my doctor told me to walk without them. MRI scan two weeks ago showed stage 2 necrosis which was caused by steroids that I was using for seven months. I never felt pain in the hips. Can I do exercises like push-ups or plank? Is there a possibility that I will never feel pain?

Thank you.

Hello,

Welcome to icliniq.com.

I understand your concern. Avascular necrosis in the femur head is a common side effect of prolonged steroid therapy. It has four stages based on the extent to which the femoral head is affected. Treatment is according to the stage, in late stages surgery (joint replacement) may be required. Please let me know if you limp or have any clicking sensations. I suggest you take the following medications -

1. Tablet Alendronate (Alendronic acid).

2. Tablet Rosuvastatin (Statin).

Consult your specialist doctor, discuss with them, and take the medicines with their consent. I hope your queries are resolved and any further queries are welcome.

Same symptoms don't mean you have the same problem. Consult a doctor now!
