Patient's Query
Hello doctor,
My 15-month-old baby has been suffering from a fever for five days. He has a fever of 102 degrees Fahrenheit and a cough. We are giving him cough syrup and Meftal, but still, the situation is the same. Please suggest an effective medication for my baby.
Thank you.
Hello,
Welcome to icliniq.com.
I read your query and understand your concern.
We need to find out the cause of the fever. It may be due to viral infection also. I suggest the following.
(Consult your specialist doctor, talk with them, and take medications with their consent.)
1. Give him syrup Meftal-P (Mefenamic Acid) if his fever is more than 100 degrees Fahrenheit (5 mg per kilogram daily.
2. Give him Paracetamol syrup if the fever is below 100 degrees Fahrenheit (6.80 mg/lb). Both medicines can be given alternately with a gap of 4 to 6 hours.
3. In between the medication, if the fever persists, do tepid sponging; the purpose is to get down the fever as early as possible to prevent febrile convulsion.
4 . Avoid cold drinks or food; give him homemade warm soup.
5. You can give him syrup Sinarest (Chlorpheniramine, Paracetamol, and Phenylephrine) 2 ml twice daily if a runny nose is there.
If the fever is not resolving for more than five days and is not responding to medication, I suggest you review back with the following test results.
1. Complete blood count.
2. Chest X-ray.
Thank you.
